Are Barn Conversions Possible for a Listed Building?

If you are considering a conversion to a listed building we have the knowledge and expertise to help you  manage this type of transformation to create a beautiful new space.

Listed buildings are subject to strict regulations which aim to preserve their historic structure and character both externally and internally.   Therefore it is essential that you obtain listed building consent from your local council.   Unauthorised works can result in you being fined.

We can offer advice on contacting your local authority to check if planning permission is required for your listed building.  We can also help you appoint an architect for the design, and structural engineers to assess the stability of the existing building.

Renovation of an old car port into a modern studio

The exposed timbers to the vaulted ceiling and brickwork walls were boarded over and skimmed with Velux windows being installed to make a light and airy space.

Externally treated timber studwork was installed between the existing oak posts of the car port with air dried oak shiplap boarding to finish and enclose the new space. We installed new drainage pipework connected to the client’s existing service in order to service the new shower room and kitchen.
